Streaming. The series "Wednesday" returns for a second season on Netflix... this Wednesday

Nearly three years after enchanting the world on Netflix, young American actress Jenna Ortega returns to the uniform and raven-colored braids of Wednesday Addams for a highly anticipated second season of Wednesday , fueled by fresh blood but still produced and co-directed by Tim Burton.

Inspired by the world of The Addams Family , this horror comedy is the second most-watched series on the platform with more than 252 million views, behind season 1 of Squid Game (265 million). Filmed in Ireland, the new eight-episode series is broadcast in two parts, starting this Wednesday, August 6 with the first four episodes and September 3 for the next four.

Wednesday, a pale-skinned, goth-looking teenager who rejects new technologies, returns to Nevermore Academy, where werewolves, mermaids, and other "Outliers" (as opposed to "Normis") study. Gifted with the gift of clairvoyance, the eldest of the Addams Family continues to play the detective in the face of a new series of mysterious murders, while dealing with her newfound popularity - which she abhors - and her conflicted relationship with her mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

The cast is enriched with the arrival of Steve Buscemi ( The Big Lebowski ), Joanna Lumley ( Absolutely Fabulous ), Haley Joel Osment ( The Sixth Sense ) and Christopher Lloyd, the "Doc" from the Back to the Future trilogy, who played Uncle Fester on the big screen in the 1990s. Singer Lady Gaga, whose song Bloody Mary was associated on social networks with a dance scene from Wednesday that went viral, will also be in the game. Percy Hynes White, one of the main actors of season 1, has however been dismissed, after accusations of sexual assault - which he denies.

For season 2, Jenna Ortega, 22, had to learn to "handle new weapons" besides the sword, including an axe, as she recounted during a virtual press conference. "I had to be precise, I didn't want to hurt the actor on the other side," the actress from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice reported.

The latter accepted the project from creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar because he was "touched by the strength" of the main character. "When I read the script for the first season, I had the strange feeling that it had been written for me. […] I loved his take on things, from family to school to psychiatry and everything in between," he explained.

As proof of its popularity, the family created by American cartoonist Charles Addams for the New Yorker in 1938 is expected for a third season, already announced by Netflix.
